portable is alan abrahams, a south african born artist, producer, and celebrated live act who has released his minimal wares on cult labels like perlon and live at robert johnson, as well as his own süd electronic label. abrahams’ first lp for !k7 is his most personal yet, taking the artist’s given name for its title. the album places portable’s distinctive vocals front and center, showcasing some very real song writing skills next to abrahams’ own piano playing, in addition to a few choice collaborators.

roger gerressen about his project >lunar phases< : -when thinking about the lights of the night the first thing that came to my mind was the moon. you look at it daily and we are all affected by it so much. since the project contains eight tracks and the moon travels through eight phases every month it seemed like an obvious choice to choose this subject for the lp. the first part of the lp is the >new moon<, when the people (and the music) are mellow and relaxed. the second part of the lp is darker, faster and more chaotic, which is more likely to be the effect a >full moon< has on people.-
